A 10-minute weekly competitor routine for restaurant owners
Most advice about competitor analysis is written for companies with a marketing team. If you’re an owner-operator, you need something that fits between the lunch rush and payroll. This is that version: a short weekly loop that tells you what changed nearby and what, if anything, to do about it.
Pick your real competitors
Not every restaurant in town. The three to five places a customer would actually choose instead of you — same cuisine or same block, similar price. That short list is the whole game.
The weekly loop
- Skim what changed: prices, new dishes, promotions, hours
- Ask one question — would a regular notice this?
- Decide: match it, ignore it, or do something better
- Write down anything you’re testing in response
Make the input automatic
The loop only works if the first step takes seconds. That’s where a monitoring tool earns its keep: instead of opening four websites, you open one email. trackmycompetitors sends a plain-English weekly digest of what each competitor changed, so the “skim” step is already done for you.
Ten minutes a week beats a quarterly deep-dive you never get around to.
