How to track your competitors’ menu prices without a spreadsheet

If you run a restaurant, you already know what your three or four closest competitors charge for the dishes that overlap with yours. The problem is keeping that knowledge current. Menus get reprinted, delivery-app prices creep up, a lunch special appears for a month and disappears. Checking each site by hand is the kind of task that falls off the list the moment things get busy.

Why manual checking breaks down

Doing it yourself runs into three walls. You forget. You check at the wrong moment — a week after the change, when a customer already noticed. And you can’t tell a real change from a redesigned page, so you either over-react or stop looking.

What to actually watch

  • The prices of the handful of dishes that compete directly with yours
  • New items added to the menu (a sign of where they’re heading)
  • Promotions and combos — especially lunch and happy-hour deals
  • Opening hours, which change around holidays and seasons

Let a tool do the boring part

The job is a perfect fit for automation: check the page on a schedule, compare it to last time, and ignore the cosmetic noise. trackmycompetitors does exactly this. You paste a competitor’s website, it finds the menu and pricing pages, and it emails you a short summary when something a customer would notice actually changes — like a Margherita going from $12 to $14.

The point isn’t to react to everything. It’s to never be the last to know.
